Amber Chanaki has some knowledge or crime-fighting back in the US. She's naturally interested in finding out more about crime and police work here in France. She has interviewed Monsieur Paul Blanchard, a member of the Gendarmerie Nationale -- France's major national police agency. By far the most serious crimes Officer Blanchard faces are those involving weapons and violence. Another hot item these days in France is that of "pédophilia" -- the criminal use and abuse of children. Alcohol and drug abuse are also among the top concerns for the French police. For us foreigners, the main concern is of course pickpockets, and the police here work very hard on this problem, too. Amber tells that the prime crime season in Les Sables is also the prime time for tourists: June, July, and August.
