Kelly Mascola has decided to find out more about the most famous sporting event of Les Sables d'Olonne. The Vendée-Globe is a sailing race around the world, done in solitary and with no stops anywhere along the way. She has interviewed Iris Chracknell who runs the official Vendée-Globe shop here in Les Sables, and she has learned a lot about one of the world's most prestigious sailing events. The V-G takes place very four years and runs from November into the spring of the next year. The 2004 race started on Novembver 7 last year. The first ship back took 93 days and the last sailor returned after 158 days alone at sea. Vincent Riou was the 2004 winner and he sailed aboard the good ship "PRB", sponsored by the building products company of the same name.
