New Ideas for SPS Activities

07 Flag Football Team!
Last year our first Flag Football team for SPS had fun!

Last Season

Pictures may be posted and the season was wonderful!!

Basketball, Golf, and Poker ?
Our advisor has agreed to start some activities involving a "hang out" type of atmosphere. Andy Koepke has agreed to help start these programs. First, most of the students in the undergrad lounge love to play basketball. Our team last year had a great 6-5 season! Having a team for the students is a good way to show that physics isn't all about being "geeky", but also about enjoying time with friends. Next, a bowling and poker gathering has been suggested. At the next meeting we will discuss when + where these activities should occur. Everyone is invitied to these activities, so feel free to get involved or offer other ideas. Racquet ball? softball?

Field Trips
It would be great to have more field trips, either to some museum/science department or White water rafting/snow ski/other. Voice your ideas on trips to attend this year.

New Demos!~Outreach Programs
The department has recently allowed for the physics demonstrations to be updated. An opportunity arises to start speading some science knowledge in an outreach program. This isn't something that everyone has to devote a whole day too; just an hour to visit a local gradeschool, and the activities WVU has throughout the year. This means that on Fathers+Daughters Day, Major Mania Week, and any other physics tour, the club members can rotate times to show students some interesting physics demos. Students need the will to learn, and any small activity can help.

Science in the News
Throughout the year, science plays a major part in society. At meetings, any new "science" will be discussed; this is a great way to see other opinions- and expand your mind. It is not required to research any topic for the meetings, just attend and voice your ideas on a science subject.

Research and Graduate School Information
Physics is a unique area of science, because it offers several avenues for careers. Most physics students do research and think about life after a B.S. degree. We are hoping to gather more information, and have it organized to help students find education that suits their interests. The undergrad loundge and site links will be updated to find career opportunities. Feel free to ask any questions of advisors and facualty concerning research and grad school.

More to come-just voice your ideas!
