Charter of WVU SPS

I. Name
This organization is and shall be called The Society of Physics Students- WVU Chapter.

II. Mission
The SPS exists to encourage interest in physics and to enable creative ideas in students of all ages.

III. Membership Qualifications/Non-Discrimination Policy
Any person, regardless of age, race, color, creed, national origin, sex, or major is eligible for membership in this organization.

IV. Officers
The Executive Branch shall be composed of a President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer.

V. Advisor(s) The membership of the organization shall select an Advisor(s) from the faculty or administration of Indiana University of Pennsylvania. The Advisor shall serve as an advocate for the organization and insure that all business conducted by the organization meets University standards.

VI. Meetings
The organization shall have a minimum of two business meetings every academic semester.

VII. Attendance/Activity Requirements
All members are required to come to 25% of the club activities each semester. These activities include meetings and/or events.

VIII. Expulsion and Impeachment
There are no expulsion or impeachment procedures.

IX. Financial Obligation
Dues for this organization shall be determined at the first meeting of the academic semester by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the membership.

X. Amendment Procedures
Amendments to this constitution may be proposed by the members in writing and approved by a secret two-thirds (2/3) vote of the members of the organization present at the designated meeting. Members should be notified at least one meeting in advance that an amendment is in question. If a member will be absent for any reason from a meeting in which an amendment is in question, a proxy vote will be accepted by the President provided it is signed in ink by the absentee, and it names the person who will be responsible for the absentee's vote, and the proxy letter is received by the President at least three (3) hours before the meeting.
