Most
families had a wardrobe similar to this. In
the first part of the century through the
thirties, many houses were not built with
closets. This is mostly because people did
not own the amount of clothing that is common
today. Prior to the 1930s, a whole family's
clothing could fit into a piece of furniture
similar to this. This is why closets were
considered luxury items and therefore, were
taxable. |
