After lunch, a team from class drops by with an extra "Post-Father's-Day" surpise. I can't tell you what a pleasure this gives me. It's a poster of my favorite French leader (Eleanor of Aquitaine). Then there's the major bonus of a volume of Vendée Proverbs (just wait for the new plays on words I'll get from there...). The major prize is a fantastic volume, written in the nineteenth century, documenting the original language of Vendée in the days of its glory (that is before people here spoke French!). This is not only the matter of my general teaching, this is the stuff of my passion, my research, and my heart. What else can I say... |
