Our guide notes that in the years following the Hundred Years War, the military function of the traditional castle no longer made real sense. The object here is to create wealth, not to make war. The Chabot family managed this place as a business and lived here partly for the rural charm, and mainly in order to manage the production of crops. In the winter especially, this family like so many other nobles of France left their lands and lived in the city. The winter was the season of theater and ballet. The Chabot's held their town home in the nearby city of Nantes. |
