What’s New
- Several members of the WV APBS Network attended the 4th Annual International Conference on Positive Behavior Support in Boston sponsored by the Association of Positive Behavior Support (APBS). Mark Clingan and Chris George gave a poster presentation outlining the network's strategies to facilitate community involvement in the PBS process. West Virginia became the first Positive Behavior Support Network to be officially recognized by the APBS.
- Plans have been made for a graduate level course in Positive Behavior Support through West Virginia University. The course is planned for the Summer of 2007 and will be available at several local sites using videoconferencing. In addition to the curriculum, the course will include a case study designed to build team participation skills and teach class participants the various steps of the planning process.
- Dr. Don Kincaid of the University of South Florida to be the Keynote Speaker at the WV APBS Network’s next semi-annual meeting in March. Dr. Kincaid will lead the Network in strategic planning.
- The WV APBS Network Leadership Team met on Thursday, November 28, 2006 to continue discussion on diseminating the "Overview of PBS" materials. A letter will be mailed out in December to various agencies to determine which agencies are interested in receiving the "Overview of PBS" materials. Materials will then be sent out in mid January after the responses have been returned.
- The WV APBS Network Leadership Team met on October 31, to complete workbooks that will accompany the "Overview of PBS" video the team filmed in August. The leadership team also looked to determine how PBS can be embedded into higher education coursework across various disciplines.
- The WV APBS Network’s semi-annual meeting was held on Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. The meeting discussed the progress and outcomes of the network’s priorities. A waiver update was given by the West Virginia Office of Behavior Health Services. The meeting also discussed new priorities including competencies for implementing PBS at the individual level and ways to include PBS in higher education coursework. - On September 18, the leadership committee met to plan the upcoming Statewide PBS Network meeting scheduled for October 4, 2006 at Marshall University in Huntington, WV. An agenda for the upcoming meeting can be found on the Meeting page under the About Us navigation menu tab.
- On August 22, the leadership committee recorded a PBS training video for distribution among state agencies and Positive Behavior Support providers. The training video is expected to be available by late fall. For more information on the video, please contact the WV APBS Leadership Committee.
