Cheese it!

Outside again, we walk over to the port.  We are in Les Sables, but across the port is the town called La Chaume.  La Chaume is another famous fishing center and it has a charm all its own.  The dialect spoken there is not the least of the elements adding to its quaintness.

The tower to the right is that of the old château d'Arundel.  The lord of this castle is said to have spoken out of turn about the policies of King Louis XIV.  Louis did not bide impertinence, and the castle was razed, leaving only the modest tower as a reminder to all that the Sun King rules with a firm hand.
