After class is over, I love to take walks around Les Sables.  This is a photo from the fishing port that is the life's blood of the economy in this town.  One of the things that always strikes me here it the length of the days in June and brilliance of the light.  This photo was taken a little after six pm this evening.

Tomorrow, we will be up early for a trip across southern Vendée to the marshes of old Poitou.  There, among other things we will see the village where Eleanor of Aquitaine was born and the canals dug by medieval monks and Renaissance engineers to make usable earth of the marshland.
