Summer Institute 2005 Application

The WVU Writing Project’s Summer Institute gives WV teachers at all grade levels from all subject areas the chance to:

X  Read and discuss best practices and current research

X  Develop new strategies for using writing in the classroom

X  Develop a portfolio of professional writing

X  Become part of a dynamic network of teachers

X  Earn up to 6 hours of WVU graduate credit in English

X  Receive a $700 stipend and tuition waiver

Any teacher who believes that writing is important for students and is willing to work with others is invited to apply.  You do not have to be an outstanding writer, and you do not have to be an expert in the teaching of writing.  However, you must have a commitment to the teaching of writing and student use of writing to help their learning.

Participants in the WVU Writing Project Summer Institute can receive three graduate credit hours in English from West Virginia University.  Participants may also be eligible to receive up to three additional credits for completion of a curriculum project.

To apply, please complete the following information:  write a brief letter describing your educational background, your teaching experience (including your school and the grade levels and subjects you teach), any previous Writing Project affiliation, and your potential for contributing to and benefiting from the institute.  Please include contact information, too (name, work and home address, work and home phone numbers, e-mail address).  Click on the submit button to send your application.

We will accept applications on a rolling basis and will respond within three weeks, starting March 21.  Thus, prompt submission will allow you to develop your plans for the summer.
