Shenandoah Room at the
MountainLair, WVU, Morgantown
Initial Workshop from
9:00-12:00 and Advanced Workshop 1:00-3:00
The
WVU Writing Project invites you to be our guest on Saturday, October 8, 2005
for a half-day or a full-day seminar with an outstanding storyteller and
author. We welcome returning WVU WP
fellows and their guests, but we also welcome all area teachers who are interested in writing.
Workshop Description
Even
the most gifted students stumble in the same, predictable ways when creating
narrative pieces—whether stories or expository essays. Through fast-paced,
humorous, interactive demonstrations and exercises, master storyteller Kendall
Haven will uncover the secret architecture of stories, identify the core
elements that lie at the heart of creative and expository writing, and build a
successful step-by-step writing progression.
Kendall
Haven created his Write Right! approach to support the Language Arts
Content Standards for virtually all states.
He describes Write Right! as
“the magic structure that binds reading, writing, and telling.” Through a combination of lecture, powerful
participatory exercises, and follow-up discussion, Kendall will demonstrate key
concepts of his approach. He promises
to provide a specific outline, guide, and framework that he guarantees will
change the way your students write.
The
workshop addresses the following areas:
The
morning workshop provides an introduction to these concepts. If you can stay for the whole day, the
advanced workshop in the afternoon will extend the ideas and help you tailor
activities for your specific teaching situation.
Won’t
you please join us for either a half-day OR a full-day workshop full of useful,
specific strategies and activities? It
promises to be fascinating, delightful, and perhaps the most powerful session
you have ever attended.
