The West Virginia University Writing Project, a site of the National Writing Project, was established in 1987 as a public school-university partnership linking WVU with Marion and Monongalia County Schools.   Preston and Wetzel Counties are now a part of that partnership.

Some 275 Teachers Consultants have been trained to work with teachers and administrators to promote writing and classroom research in sixty schools. A major thrust has been the training of teachers in using computers in the classroom.

Leaders of the West Virginia University Writing Project are Dr. Laura Brady, Director of the WVU Writing Project; Ellen Oderman, Monongalia County Writing Project Director; and Sally Manly, Marion County Writing Project Director.  In-service director is Dr. Gwen Rosenbluth, and Margaret Clark is Technology Liaison.
