LOG FOR JUNE 19, 2002

Upon arriving for the day,

I found Sally, Ellen, and Terry at play.

Working hard to find some teddybear or gingerbread clip art,

Sally asked, “Why isn’t Molly here to do her part?”

“Remember fellows,” said Sally reading the menu from SUBWAY,

Tomorrow is computer technology “beginning day”!

In order to make some real-life connections,

You’ve got to follow my written driving directions!

Louise brought snacks of homemade rolls and bread,

And stated that while waiting to pick the strawberries that she had read.

She found herself up very late last night,

But the spread she prepared for us, “What a sight!”

Sally said she missed out on Terri’s Graham cracker treat,

As everyone claimed, “They can’t be beat!”

Louise brought chips and dip, jam and peanut butter spread,

To snack on with that recipe-less bread.

Donna Dennis came to demonstrate her ‘SURVIVOR” presentation,

I wondered if we were all on the same station.

Some of her ideas of journal writing and sharing

Brought my attention to Diane and caring.

Then came across the word “accountability”

And I wondered if, maybe, we were reaching that stage in our life called senility.

Letter writing, response starters and real-life connections

Were done by logs, quilts, and teacher directions.

Characters and story recipes about UNDER THE STAR,

Other stories like NAVAJO LONGWALK, INDIAN SCHOOL, AND RUN AWAY HOME- I wondered run away, How far?

Judy Blume and her fourth-grade nothing tale

Brought about an interesting project- “Sibling Sale”.

Talk about fantasy, ah, that’s no big deal!

You mean THE DRAGONLING wasn’t real!

Maybe THE CASTLE IN THE ATTIC book

Could be discovered if in the collection box you took a look.

The along came SALLY ARNOLD, much like our own Sally,

And talk about reflections of books (the gathering basket)…Sally said, “Let’s not dilly dally!”

We’ve got a basket to fill with stuff,

And Dee asks, “Do you think we’ve got enough?”

Along came Colleen Gibson from Tridelphia, near Wheeling,

Very bubbly and excited- didn’t you get the feeling?

She presented her project – UNITED WE STAND,

And we all gave her a big hand!

Her unit was about connecting home, community and school,

A lot of her books and ideas were really cool.

She had lots of great ideas and wonderful student-made books,

She got people from everywhere to help, even the school cooks!

I loved her ONCE UPON A TIME…

And children rewriting their favorite nursery rhyme!

Reader’s Theater and even student book reports

Like swimming, soccer, football, and other sports!

LUCKY LISTENERS were used to get students to read,

And I felt like she had “planted the seed”.

She gave her students the attitude that “You can fly!”

If you are willing to just give it a try!

Then along came problem-solving based learning,

And I just got a sudden yearning!

And mention of Power Point and Web page,

Really goes to show our true age.

INSPIRATION- a wonderful organizational tool,

But ZACK’S ALLIGATOR was way too cool.

And STEP UP TO WRITING was last,

But her presentation was really a blast from the past!

LASTLY, but not least important, at all

Sally and Ellen came to call.

Demo group rules of DO’S AND DON’TS on hearts,

I think we’ve convinced them, “WE’VE GOT THE SMARTS!”
