The lab
assignments will
closely parallel the topics in PHY 110-120. Tentatively, the lab
assignments are: Lab 1: Conservation of Energy: SHO Lab 2: Vibrating String Lab 3: Resonance Tube Lab 4: Snell’s Law Lab 5: Archimedes’ Principle Lab 6: Boyle’s Law Lab 7: Specific Heat of Metals Lab 8: Latent Heats of H20 Lab 9: Ohm’s Law Lab 10: Wattage: Household Appliances Lab 11: Resistors and Capacitors in Series and in Parallel |

Donahue. A student who misses a lab or anticipates missing a lab can
make it up on one of the other days without asking for the consent of
the instructor. |
Lab Assignments |
There will be eleven lab assignments. The assignments will be given at the beginning of each lab period. Students are encouraged to discuss the assignment with lab partners and to ask questions of the instructor. The lab assignments are to be completed during the lab period and submitted before leaving. The lowest lab score will be discarded. |
Lab Group |
Students
will work in groups of two or three. Groups of four will not
be permitted unless a lack of equipment makes it necessary. Students in
the same
group must have the same data. Students in different groups must have
different
data. |

A final comprehensive, open-notebook exam will be held at the end of the semester. |
|
Students are expected to attend all labs. Good attendance is highly correlated with good grades. Freshmen and upperclassmen on academic probation are permitted no more than two absences. |
|

following weights will be used in determining students' numerical
grades:

The
Academic Resource Center (ARC): Ignatius Hall, Ground Floor,
243-4473, (http://www4.wju.edu/arc ). The ARC offers
discipline-specific assistance at no cost to enrolled students.
Assistance is offered in one-hour appointments, in regularly scheduled
study groups, or by special arrangement. In a typical semester, 90% or
more of
the students who use the ARC finish in academic good standing. |
Integrity |
Plagiarism or cheating makes a student liable for an F for the course. Students should refer to the Student Handbook for a complete description on academic integrity. |
