NARRATIVE
A black surface
is connected to one junction of a thermocouple while a silver plate is connected to
another junction of a thermocouple. A difference in temperature will cause a current to
flow in the thermocouple circuit. Heat the steel ball until it is red hot. Connect the
plates and thermocouple to a projection galvanometer so that the galvanometer will be
deflected in the direction of the hotter plate. Place the hot steel ball between the
plates and the galvanometer will be deflected to indicate that the black plate has
absorbed more heat.
