Bicycle Wheel with Vector
Length of
String (3 times circumference)
NARRATIVE
Transition from linear to angular
measure is illustrated in the following way:
Wrap a length of string equal to 3 circumferences of the bicycle wheel around the rim of the wheel. Measure the length of the string and the number of revolutions of the wheel necessary to take up the string.
(Can be used for rolling wheel S = R * Theta)
Linear and angular velocity relationships may be investigated by unwinding the string at a certain linear velocity and interpreting this in rotational coordinates.
