NARRATIVE
Newton's Rings are an
interference pattern resulting from interference of light through an air wedge which is
formed by placing a slightly convex glass plate in contact with a flat glass plate.
Hold the Newton's Rings device in the same position as the soap film in INTERFERENCE IN A SOAP FILM. The shape and position of the interference pattern may be adjusted by gently turning any of the three thumbscrews.
This demonstration works best when placing the ring on the table and reflecting with the Sodium Vapor Lamp, so that students may view it as they leave the room.
