NARRATIVE
The Voltaic cell consists of a zinc rod or plate and a copper plate
immersed in a 5% solution of sulfuric acid. An ammeter with a 1 amp shunt shows current in
the circuit. After a few seconds of immersion of the zinc rod, current ceases because
hydrogen combines with the surface of the zinc forming an insulator. Wipe this coating
away while still moist with a paper towel.
