NARRATIVE
The Wimshurst machine is used to separate static
charges to produce a HIGH potential. The machine is equipped with two Leyden jar
capacitors that store charge. Two small electrodes mounted on the base of the machine put
the Leyden jars in the circuit when they are touching. (Always rotate the crank
in a clockwise direction.) A shorting device is included
with the apparatus and should always be used to discharge the machine and Leyden jars
before handling them.
Does not work well in high humidity.
