NARRATIVE
A large coil of wire will contain an electric current if rapidly rotated in the earth's magnetic field.Use a dip needle and compass needle to determine the orientation of the earth's field. The coil is mounted in a wooden frame and has a spring around its rotation axis. Prepare the coil by rotating it until the locking pin may be engaged. Connect the coil to the projection galvanometer. Release the locking pin and the meter needle will deflect.
