Response Memos for the Job Application Letter Draft
In addressing your response memo to the writer, address the following concerns.
Give specific examples of where the document works well and where
it needs to be improved. Give specific suggestions for improvement
in each category.
Criteria for effective application letters:
How does the letter target the particular job for which the writer
is applying? (Refer to details specified in the job ad itself and
in the GRACE analysis supplied by the writer.)
How effectively does the writer make the case for him/herself as the right
person for the job?
How effectively does the writer use "Can do," Will do," and "Want to Do"
How effectively is the information in the letter organized and formatted?
How well does the letter balance the concerns of providing detail while
How effective are the choices regarding expression: style and tone.
How neat and professional looking is the letter--standard business letter
format, and choices of paper, ink, fonts, margins, spacing, etc.?
How well does the letter use the standards of good writing style, correct
grammar, usage, punctuation, and spelling?
