Undergraduate Arts & Sciences Scholarships

Students majoring in any undergraduate arts and sciences degree program may contact Brenda Riggle, 201 Woodburn Hall, 304.293.4611 or briggle@wvu.edu to inquire about the following scholarships and request an application. (Applications are distributed and accepted January through April 30.)

  • Arts & Sciences Scholarship — awarded to students enrolled in an arts and sciences major; no rank or residency restrictions.
  • John and Dick Anderson Scholarship — awarded to students enrolled in either the Eberly College or the Davis College of Agriculture & Forestry. No rank or residency restrictions.
  • Barnette Scholarship — awarded to incoming freshmen who are graduates of St. Albans High School, WV. Based on academic merit and financial need, the scholarship is renewable for an additional three years if recipient remains in good academic standing.
  • Frank and Bernardina Biafora Dean’s Leadership Scholarship — awarded to an arts and sciences major (preference given to political science students) from West Virginia who demonstrates academic potential, financial need, and leadership ability through participation in extracurricular activities and community service.
  • Stefi Poluck Biafora Scholarship — awarded to a junior or senior enrolled in an arts and sciences major. Based on financial need, the scholarship is intended for a West Virginia resident whose family is involved in coal mining.
  • Eloise Gunn Divers Presidential Scholarship — awarded to graduates of Calhoun County High School majoring in history or education. (Awarded by WVU Scholars Program)
  • Eberly Family Arts & Sciences Scholarship — awarded to incoming freshmen who are residents of Fayette, Greene, Washington, or Westmoreland counties of PA. Must be full- time student enrolled in an arts and sciences major. Based on academic merit and financial need, the scholarship is renewable for three additional years if 2.75 GPA maintained.
  • Janet Walker Gilmore Memorial Scholarship — awarded to incoming freshmen who are graduates of Bridgeport High School, WV. Based on academic merit and financial need.
    Elizabeth Gorrell Harris Scholarship — awarded to female students enrolled in an arts and sciences major, with first preference given to graduates of Clay or Kanawha County high schools; second preference to graduates of other WV high schools. Based on academic merit and financial need, the scholarship is renewable if student maintains GPA of 3.0 or better.
  • Martha Phillips Hupp Scholarship — awarded to non-traditional undergraduate students who have been out of school for three years or more prior to pursuing college degree. Based on academic merit and financial need. No residency restriction.
  • Rose Burton Isaacs Scholarship — awarded to students enrolled in a program of study leading to a degree in writing, literature or poetry; must demonstrate financial need and high academic promise. (Awarded by WVU Scholars Program)
  • Olive M. and Victor A. Kist Scholarship — awarded to incoming freshmen who are graduates of any high school in Cambria County, PA. Based on academic potential and involvement in at least one community-oriented extracurricular activity (excluding sports), the scholarship is renewable for three additional years provided student makes academic progress towards arts and sciences degree and continues involvement in community service activity.
  • Gladys Hoylman King Scholarship — awarded to a resident of Greenbrier County, WV, who is enrolled in an arts and sciences degree program. Recipient must be at least of sophomore rank. Based on academic merit and financial need
  • Jerry L. Knight Scholarship —awarded to undergraduate student from Pleasants County, WV. Based on academic merit and financial need, the scholarship is renewable for three additional years if student continues to make progress towards arts and science degree.
  • Mary R. Laidley Memorial Scholarship - awarded to incoming freshmen who graduate from a West Virginia high school. Based on academic merit and financial need, the scholarship is renewable for three additional years if student remains enrolled in arts and sciences major and achieves a 2.75 GPA during the freshman year and a 3.0 GPA thereafter.
  • Clifford Garrett Lantz Scholarship — awarded to senior political science, philosophy, and/or economic majors in their final semester of undergraduate study. Preference given to students who have made application to the WVU College of Law.
  • Domenico and Alessandrina Lippucci Scholarship — awarded to a rising junior or senior on the basis of academic merit and financial need. No residency restriction.
    John A. Malcomb Endowed Scholarship — awarded to residents of Upshur County, WV with preference given to juniors and seniors.
  • John A. Malcomb Endowed Scholarship — awarded to residents of Upshur County, WV with preference given to juniors and seniors.
  • John Donley McCartney Memorial Scholarship — awarded to undergraduate students enrolled in an arts and sciences degree program who demonstrate financial need and high academic promise based on freshman year performance.
  • Dr. Gerald T. Mclnerney Scholarship — awarded to full-time arts and sciences majors with preference given to sophomore students. No residency restriction; award based on academic merit and financial need; renewable if student is making academic progress towards degree.
  • McKay Coast Scholarship — awarded to undergraduate students majoring in English, history, mathematics, or philosophy.
  • Robert K. Frances Robey Powell Scholarship — awarded to graduates of Fairmont Senior High Scholl enrolled in an arts and sciences degree program who demonstrate financial need and are involved in extracurricular activities. (Awarded by WVU Scholars Office)
  • Carrol H. Quenzel Scholarship — awarded to undergraduate students majoring in the liberal arts and humanities (English, foreign languages, history, philosophy, religious studies) on the basis of academic merit and financial need.
  • Dr. Eugene P. Salvati Family Book Scholarship — awarded to undergraduate students to assist with the purchase of textbooks. No rank or residency restrictions.
  • Catherine Chico Sellaro Scholarship — awarded to WV residents of Italian-American heritage majoring in a science field (computer science excluded). Recipient must have sophomore or higher standing and a GPA of 2.5 or greater.
  • Stanczak/Lamb Family Scholarship — awarded to undergraduate students enrolled in an arts and sciences degree program who demonstrate financial need and academic achievement; first preference given to residents of Lewis County, WV; second preference to non-resident students who have at least one parent graduate from WVU.
  • William and Jean Swales Scholarship — awarded to incoming freshmen based on nominations received from WV high school counselors. Recipient must be a WV resident with financial need.
  • Dr. Isaiah A. Wiles Scholarship — awarded to a junior or senior biology major from Preston County, WV, with preference to students who plan to enter a health service profession and/or public service.
