Chairs and Professorships

Endowed Chairs and Professorships enable the Eberly College to attract and retain outstanding scholars who make a board impact not only within their discipline but also throughout the university. Faculty on such special appointments have teaching and research responsibilities.

The College is especially eager to secure funds for a professorship in Civil War Studies.

This special type of faculty member:

  • Serves as an academic magnet
  • Facilitates the hiring of additional outstanding faculty
  • Inspires the work of faculty already in residence
  • Recruits academically gifted high school students in addition to outstanding college graduate students
  • Increases the college's reputation in the highly competitive market of research grants
  • Influences the lives of WVU students

By endowing a Chair or Professorship, donors will be investing in the College's future as well as in the present. As part of the endowment, the benefactor's name will forever be associated with the Eberly College and its academic tradition of excellence. The principal of the endowment remains untouched, ensuring the existence of the named endowment in perpetuity.
