          Political Science

The Department of Political Science, located in historic Woodburn Hall, is one of the outstanding departments in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences. And we need your support to make sure we continue as an outstanding department.

Enjoying a national reputation in research, the department is ranked 39th in research published in the top journals of the profession and 18th in the field of public law. Likewise, the department is considered one of the top teaching departments at WVU, with more than half of the faculty winning teaching awards at either the college, university, state, or national levels. And this excellence in research and teaching needs to be maintained for current and future students.

Ever conscious of the importance of being student-centered, the department places great emphasis on activities designed to enhance the academic and extra-curricular experiences of our students. Thus, the department sponsors the University Debate Team, the Model U.N. and O.A.S., the Young Democrats and Young Republicans, the Pre-Law Society, and various special activities including the U.S. Naval Academy and West Point Military Academy Conferences in Public Affairs, the Stephen Wolfe Prize to the best student studying the American Presidency, internships in the state legislature and in Washington, D.C. and the Carl M. Frasure and John R. Williams Lectureships.

Thanks to the generous support of alumni and friends, the department now offers some 30 scholarships each year and has three endowed professorships, all of which have contributed to the department's success in producing 10 of the university's 25 Rhodes Scholars and 8 of its 15 Truman Scholars.

Help us maintain the excellence of the Department of Political Science--and help us continue to serve WVU students.
