          Institute for Public Affairs

The West Virginia Institute for Public Affairs is a public policy research center devoted to the study of policy that affects the livelihood of West Virginians. The Institute is located in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University. The Institute has several objectives. These include efforts to:

  • Conduct scholarly research on issues that affect future development and promote positive change within the state and region
  • Facilitate collaboration between researchers from a variety of fields and disciplines
  • Actively disseminate research findings and conclusions to public officials, other scholars and to the general public via publications, conferences, training/educational workshops and presentations
The Institute encourages research and collaboration through grants and stipends. The bulk of this research is disseminated through the Institute's quarterly refereed journal, The West Virginia Public Affairs Reporter and the Institute's Technical Reports and Monograph Series. In addition, The Institute also provides active training and educational services to West Virginia's state and local government officials through its County Commissioners 'Education and Training Series, The County Commissioners 'Education and Training Series for Newly Elected County Commissioners, The West Virginia State Legislature 's Education Series, and The West Virginia University Local Government Leadership Academy. These popular training and educational workshops offer seminars that focus on topics and problems of interest to the state's public officials.

INSTITUTE FOR PUBLIC AFFAIRS PRIORITIES

  • Sponsorship of the West Virginia University Local Government Leadership Academy
  • An endowment to enhance The Institute's Quarterly Journal: The West Virginia Public Affairs Reporter
  • An endowment to provide for a part-time coordinator who would promote and maintain the West Virginia Internship Program
  • Sponsorship of the Center for Small Town Revitalization
