          Africana Studies

The Africana Studies Certificate Program is an academic unit within the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences. Approved by the WVU Faculty Senate in 1990, it is a multidisciplinary program of study which benefits many undergraduate students. The program seeks, through research and teaching, to explore key aspects of the African World Experience from an African- centered perspective. An African-centered perspective refers to the study of African people from the point of view of the African people and those of African descent. The broad educational purpose of the certificate program is to engender amongst all students an intellectual appreciation and understanding of the history and culture of African peoples. The program offers courses not only for certificate students but for all WVU students.
