DA Posts Incorrect Article
The headline and lead paragraphs in the article on page 1 of the April 6, 2006, DA are incorrect and causing unwarranted questions and concerns. The following is the official statement issued by the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences:
The Division of Sociology and Anthropology is not under review for its continuation at West Virginia University, nor is the college suspending admissions into the sociology and anthropology program after the fall 2006 session. The current program review is only for the anthropology area of emphasis* (AOE) within the sociology and anthropology major. We will suspend admission into the anthropology AOE, but not the sociology and anthropology major, at the end of fall term, until curriculum decisions are implemented. We are committed to providing courses to complete the AOE for current students who have declared an area of emphasis in anthropology.
For those unfamiliar, an area of emphasis is a specific topic option within a major. For example, the Division has two, one in Anthopology and another AOE in Social Inequality and Social Development.
