Beverly Smith
is a lecturer of anthropology at West Virginia University. She received a B.S. in biology
from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, an M.D. from Albany Medical College, an M.A. and a
Ph.D. in anthropology from Southern Methodist University. Her research focuses on the
interrelationships between religion, medicine, and politics, as evidenced in the AIDS
epidemic in rural Kenya. She has also published on the connections between religion and medicine,
as evidenced in film.
