Writing and Capstone Credit
All students must successfully complete at least one course that requires a substantial writing component in which the grade is partially determined by writing skills. These courses will be identified in the section number as W01 or W02, etc. The student must have completed English 102 before fulfilling the "W" requirement. In addition every undergraduate degree program at WVU requires that students satisfactory complete an approved capstone experience prior to graduation. This requirement applies to all students entering WVU in Fall 2002 or thereafter. These courses or course sections will be identified in the section number as C01 or C02, etc.
The Division of Sociology and Anthropology offers each semester:
- SocA 389-W-- Writing in Sociology and Anthropology, 1 hr. Integration of context with writing about the important topics.
- SocA 488-C--The Capstone Experience , 1 hr. PR: SocA 101 and SocA 105 and Sr. standing. Co-Req: Enroll simultaneously in one of the approved capstone experience. an undergraduate course designed to facilitate the completion of the capstone experience.
SocA 389 and 488 must be taken concurrently with an approved course and are limited to our senior majors. Students must request for an "electronic permit" in 307 Knapp Hall. After priority registration students may register for the three courses. Any student not registered for all three course components will be dropped the first week of the given semester.
