Admission to the Graduate Program

Application deadline is March 1, and formal decisions about acceptance are made by May for the fall semester. We do not accept students at mid-year.
Applying for Admission
Applicants must submit a University Graduate Application.
Applicants must submit the required Sociology division application materials to the Graduate Admissions Committee in the Division of Sociology and Anthropology. Required division application materials:
- Sociology Masters Division Application
- A statement of purpose outlining graduate study goals and plans, career plans, research experience, and any special circumstances that need explaining.
- A short sample of your academic writing.
- Three letters of recommendation (or recommendation forms) from people who have direct knowledge of your academic performance and potential for graduate study.
Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores are not essential but may strengthen the case for admission.
Foreign students for who English is not the native language are required by the University to submit the Test of English As a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores (a minimum score of 550 is required) and may be required to participate in the University's language orientation sessions.
