Scholarships

Undergraduate Students:

The Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University has many scholarship opportunities available for its students, particularly for West Virginia residents. The Office of the Dean primarily awards scholarships to incoming freshmen from West Virginia. However, we do award a few nonresident freshman scholarships as well, and approximately 50 upperclassman scholarships annually.

If you complete and return a scholarship application by April 30 (freshman deadline is March 30), we will be glad to consider you for scholarship support for the 2007-2008 academic year—if you are enrolled in one of the Eberly College’s undergraduate degree programs.

Many of our endowed scholarships have a “needs analysis” associated with them. This means that the person who established the scholarship fund included as part of the eligibility criteria a statement indicating that recipients of the scholarship must demonstrate financial need. According to the Office of Student Financial Aid, the only way a student can demonstrate need is by completing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Therefore, we encourage you to file a FAFSA annually if you wish to be considered for scholarships housed in the Eberly College. You should be able to obtain a FAFSA from the WVU Office of Student Financial Aid, or you may file online at http://www.falsa.ed.gov . You will need a federal pin number to file online, which can be requested at http://www.pin.ed.gov.

Please note that a majority of the scholarships available for upperclassmen enrolled in the Eberly College are primarily awarded by departmental scholarship committees. We encourage you to contact the department of your major to inquire about the criteria and application process for department scholarships.

The Eberly College will attempt to notify all freshman scholarship applicants of scholarship decisions by April 2. Currently enrolled undergraduates will be notified of scholarship decisions by June 1.
