Requirements for Course:

Assignments: Taken from textbook and discussed in class

Participation: In class for discussion and exploratories

Tests (4): Posted on the WEB using WebCT. We will continue the collaborative mode of taking tests AS LONG AS everyone learns the concepts underlying the questions and problems. Each will still individually enter their answers on the Web.

Suggestions: Use portfolio to maintain record of work. You need not write up "lab reports" of your results. If you use exploratories in your classrooms, please report outcomes achieved. Please fax or email your questions and concerns. If you have science questions you would like to have addressed, I'll do so... if it is OK to identify you, I'll be happy to do so... and there are no stupid questions.

If you have exploratories you wish to share, I will put them on this web page so that others can use them. Please send in electronic format or good copy paper faxed or mailed.

The purpose of the course is to:

1. Learn "HOW TO LEARN" science.

2. Stress understanding of conceptual base of science

3. Use conceptual understanding to analyze applications.

4. Enjoy learning and teaching science.

NOTE: I have received Eisenhower Higher Education funding for a one-week workshop at West Virginia University for 20 Elementary and Middle School teachers. Purpose of the workshop is to develop Science Exploratories that will be put on the WEB for downloading by teachers. Instructors for the workshop will be Page Stevenson, Wyoming East High School and Larry Oyster, Huntington High School. Please indicate your interest by sending email to Carl A. Rotter at crotter@wvu.edu
