Center for Women’s Studies sponsors Title IX discussion

Morgantown, W.Va., September 24, 2007:  The Eberly College of Arts and Sciences and the Center for Women’s Studies will co-sponsor a panel discussion titled “Pioneer Coaches Promoting Title IX on WVU Campus” on Oct. 11 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Erickson Alumni Center.

As part of the School of Physical Education’s 75th Anniversary celebration, the event will showcase the University’s history, vision and mission surrounding Title IX, specifically where athletics is concerned.

Title IX was the first federal law to prohibit sex discrimination against students and employees of educational institutions.  Under this law, males and females are expected to receive fair and equal treatment in all arenas of public schooling including recruitment, admissions, counseling, course offerings, educational programs and activities, scholarships, financial aid, employment assistance, housing, health and insurance benefits, marital and parental status, sexual harassment and athletics.

The Center for Women’s Studies offers a calendar of events for fall 2007.  All events are free and open to the public.  The various lectures are made possible by financial contributions to the Women’s Studies Program Development Fund at West Virginia University.
