Randall named Southern West Virginia MSW Coordinator
Morgantown, W.Va., September 4, 2007: Dr. Betsy Randall was recently appointed Coordinator of the Master of Social Work (MSW) Program in Southern West Virginia. She will oversee the MSW programs offered by the WVU Division of Social Work in Charleston and Beckley.
A reception to welcome Dr. Randall will be held Thursday, Sept. 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Charleston Area Medical Center, which serves as headquarters for the Southern West Virginia MSW Program.
Dr. Randall has extensive practice experience in the field of behavioral health, including inpatient and outpatient work with individuals, couples, and groups. She completed a year-long doctoral-level internship in the Department of Psychiatry and Health Behavior at the Medical College of Georgia. Randall began her career in social work education in 1994, when she moved to West Virginia from New Jersey.
The MSW program was first offered in Charleston in 1995 and in Beckley in 2001. The Southern West Virginia MSW program supports part-time graduate study, and is designed for individuals who are working full-time and need to attend classes in the evening.
The graduate program in social work offers advanced study and training in preparing social workers for leadership roles in small towns and rural areas. The Division of Social Work is nationally recognized in the area of rural social work practice and non-profit management. Currently, the Division supports Fields of Practice in the areas of Aging and Health Care, Children and Families, and Mental Health. Students have the opportunity to do field internships with agencies throughout West Virginia and adjacent states.
The Division of Social Work is housed in the School of Applied Social Sciences in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University.
