Physics hosts lecture on Multi-probe Space Exploration

Morgantown, W.Va., September 5, 2007: The radio astronomy program in West Virginia University’s Department of Physics in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences is hosting a lecture on multi-probe space exploration on Monday, September 10, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. in Hodges Hall, Room 259.

Professor David H. Atkinson from the University of Idaho’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering will deliver the lecture, “The Galileo and Cassini-Huygens Heritage: Multi-probes to Saturn.” Professor Atkinson will specifically discuss the success of the Galileo probe to Jupiter and the Huygens probe to Saturn, and the implication for a future Saturn multi-probe mission.

The possible Saturn mission is being considered by United States and European planetary communities. It would complement the upcoming NASA Juno mission to Jupiter and complete the initial survey of the Gas Giants.

The lecture is free and open to all WVU students, faculty and staff. Refreshments will be served at 2:15 p.m. For more information please contact Dr. Duncan Lorimer, Professor in the Department of Physics, at Duncan.Lorimer@mail.wvu.edu.
