WVU Division of Social Work to offer continuing education workshops
Morgantown, W.Va., September 5, 2007: The West Virginia University Division of Social Work will offer a series of local workshops for social work professionals who wish to earn continuing education credit.
The following workshops will be offered in Morgantown:
“What to Know About Your Patients’ Psychotropic Medications” will be held Friday, Sept. 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the WVU Mountainlair’s Rhododendron Room. The workshop will be led by Gene Makela, PharmD, BCPP, Associate Professor, Schools of Pharmacy and Medicine, West Virginia University. It is approved for 7.5 hours of continuing education credits (CEUs) for social work and 7 LPC hours. The registration fee is $75 (early bird rate of $67.50 if registered by Sept. 4).
“Triumph Through the Challenges of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome” will be held Tuesday, Oct. 9 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Mountaineer Mall’s Community Room. The course will be led by Jessica Bozenske, Therapist, Hillcrest Behavioral Health Center; Anna Wade and Chris Aubrey, West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources. The course is approved for 2 hours of social work CEUs, 2 LPC hours, and is STARS approved training for childcare professionals. The registration fee is $25 (early bird rate of $22.50 if registered by Sept. 18).
“The Challenges and Taboos of Spiritual Assessments” will be held Wednesday, Oct. 9 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the National Resource Center for Coal and Energy (NRCCE) Building, Room 101A, WVU Evansdale Campus. Lori Fell, MSW, Senior Lecturer, WVU Division of Social Work, and Patricia Chase, LCSW, EdD, Clinical Assistant Professor, WVU Division of Social Work, will lead the course. It is approved for 3 hours of CEUs for social work and 3 LPC hours. The registration fee is $35 (early bird rate of $31.50 if registered by Sept. 20).
“Conflict Resolution” will be held Thursday and Friday, Oct. 18-19, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the National Resource Center for Coal and Energy (NRCCE) Building, Room 101B, WVU Evansdale Campus. The two-day workshop will be led by Ellen DeBenedetti, M.Ed., Training Coordinator and Senior Trainer, Pittsburgh Mediation Center. It is approved for 16 social work CEUs, 14.25 LPC hours, or 5 WVU Continuing Education Certificate in Nonprofit Management (CECNPM) hours. The registration fee is $165, which includes lunches. The deadline for registration is Oct. 1.
“Volunteer Management” will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 23 from 10am-4pm in the National Resource Center for Coal and Energy (NRCCE) Building, Room 101A, WVU Evansdale Campus. The workshop will be led by Suzanne Marsh, MPA, Adjunct Instructor, WVU Division of Public Administration. It is approved for 5 social work CEUs and 5 CECNPM hours. The cost is $55 (early bird rate of $49.50 if registered by Sept. 24).
“Fostering Resiliency in Children: The Role of Non-Parental Adults” will be held Wednesday, Nov. 7 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Mountaineer Mall’s Community Room. The workshop will be led by Carrie Risel, MSW, PhD, Assistant Professor, WVU Division of Social Work. It is approved for 2 social work CEUs , 1.75 LPC hours, and is approved STARS training for childcare professionals. The cost is $25 (early bird rate of $22.50 if registered by Oct. 7).
“Human Resources: Employment and Team Building” will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 14 from 10am-4pm in the in the Mountaineer Mall’s Community Room. The workshop will be led by George W. Lilley, Jr., EdD, retired CEO, Valley HealthCare System. It is approved for 5 social work CEUs and 5 CECNPM hours. The cost is $55 (early bird rate of $49.50 if registered by Oct. 15).
