Lucretia Mott film presented by the Center for Women’s Studies

Morgantown, W.Va., September 24, 2007:  The Eberly College of Arts and Sciences and the Center for Women’s Studies will present a film titled “Lucretia Mott” on Oct. 11 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Shenandoah Room of the Mountainlair.

Part of the Student Life’s multicultural film series, the video will discuss the career of Lucretia Mott, an American feminist, reformer and pioneer for human rights.  Pizza will be served at the event.

Born in 1793, Mott, a Quaker, became known as a lecturer for temperance, peace, labor rights, and the abolition of slavery. She aided fugitive slaves and was a leader in organizing the Philadelphia Female Anti-Slavery Society. Additionally, she helped to organize the first women's rights convention in the United States.

Dr. Barb Howe, director of the Center for Women’s Studies and associate professor of history, is moderator of the event.

The Center for Women’s Studies offers a calendar of events for fall 2007.  All events are free and open to the public.  The various lectures are made possible by financial contributions to the Women’s Studies Program Development Fund at West Virginia University.
