WVU Writing Center Reaches Milestone

Morgantown, WV, March 20, 2006: The West Virginia University Writing Center recently reached a milestone in its efforts to help students become better writers.

The Writing Center, sponsored by the Department of English and the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences, held its 1000th tutoring session on Monday, March 19, 2007 at 11:30 a.m.

“Many of the tutors expressed excitement as we approached our 1000th student, especially those who have been with the center since its inception,” said Dr. Nathalie Singh-Corcoran, coordinator of the Writing Center.

The Writing Center provides a supportive environment where tutors help students with brainstorming, drafting, and revision of their writing projects. At the center, students develop knowledge, improve their writing skills, and build confidence.

“Since we opened in October of 2005, we've seen considerable growth. More and more students use the center each semester,” said Singh-Corcoran. “Members of the Morgantown community have even called us asking for quick writing advice. Word about our services is certainly getting around, and we believe we'll reach 2000 students in no time at all.”

The Writing Center is located at 44 Stansbury Hall on the Downtown Campus and is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The center is open to all WVU students free of charge. Students can call the center for appointments or stop by the center to see if a tutor is available.
