Department of English and NWP at WVU to Host History Alive! Performance

Morgantown, WV, September 6, 2006: The Department of English in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at WVU will present a History Alive! performance featuring Karen Vuranch as “Pearl Buck, ” a Pulitzer Prize winning author and social activist.

The presentation will be held on Wednesday, September, 13 at 10:30 a.m. in Room 48 Stansbury Hall on WVU’s Downtown campus. Seating is limited.

Born in West Virginia, Pearl Buck grew up in China with her missionary parents, but never forgot her West Virginia roots. She received the Pulitzer Prize for her novel The Good Earth. She was also a humanitarian and social activist who was deeply concerned about the welfare of children worldwide.

Karen Vuranch is a storyteller, actress, and writer who performs throughout the state of WV and internationally, bringing the history of the state to life through reenactment and performance. She received her M.A. in Humanities from West Virginia Graduate College and teaches Appalachian Studies and Theater at Concord College in Athens.

The event is cosponsored by the National Writing Project at WVU, with cooperation from the West Virginia Humanities Council.
