Peace film initiative comes to WVU
Morgantown, WV, October 12, 2006: A series of films related to the pursuit of peace will be shown as part of the WVU Communication Studies Peace Film Initiative this October.
The films will be shown October 19 - 21 in the Eiesland Hall auditorium and at the Warner Theater. This inaugural peace film initiative will offer viewers the opportunity to witness documentaries and feature films that promote consideration of peace. All events are free and open to the public.
Different clips from “Witnessing Darfur” will be shown each day of the initiative. The DVD includes two short films about the genocide in the Darfur region of Sudan and resources to help raise awareness about this tragedy.
The event opens Thursday, October 19 in G24 Eiesland Hall at 7 p.m. Clips from “Witnessing Darfur” will be shown first, and the movie “Peace Patriots” will begin at 7:30 p.m. Narrated by actress and radio host Janeane Garofalo, “Peace Patriots” tells the story of American dissenters as they reflect on their participation as engaged citizens during a time of war.
On Friday, October 20, the films will be shown at the Warner Theater beginning at 7 p.m. The program will begin with another portion of “Witnessing Darfur,” and “No Man’s Land,” an Academy Award-winning satire of the war in the Balkans, will begin at 7:25 p.m.
Four films will be shown in G24 Eiesland Hall on Saturday, October 21. “The Power of Good” will be begin at 11 a.m., followed by “Thich Nhat Hanh” at 2:15 p.m., clips from “Witnessing Darfur” at 7:00 p.m., and “Me and the Mosque,” at 7:15 p.m.
The event is sponsored by the Department of Communication Studies in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University.
