ACS Student Affiliates to host Chemistry Magic Show at WVU

Morgantown, WV, October 11, 2006:  The science of chemistry is much more than magic, but audiences young and old are still amazed by the natural effects of explosive chemical reactions.

A chemistry magic show, sponsored by West Virginia University’s American Chemical Society (ACS) Student Affiliates, will be held on Saturday, October 28 at 3:30 p.m. in 101 Clark Hall. While it is primarily being held for a local Girl Scout troop, it is also free and open to the public.

“The chemistry magic show is a chemistry demonstration aimed to spark interest in young and old minds for chemistry and science,” explained Becky McCauley, senior chemistry and biology major who recently was named Truman and Goldwater Scholars.

Demonstrations include color changes, acids and bases, pressure and volume changes, clock reactions, liquid nitrogen and fireworks.
