Friday is deadline for Summer Institute on Aging workshop proposals

Morgantown, WV, November 13, 2006:  The 29th Summer Institute on Aging will accept proposals for workshops until Friday, Nov. 17.

Practitioners, academicians, and qualified individuals who have pertinent information for the aging field are encouraged to submit proposals for workshops that will help participants build new skills and enhance existing competencies. The Institute will be held June 4-7, 2007, at the Waterfront Place Hotel in Morgantown.

Proposals for 3 hour, 4 hour, or 7 hour workshops, as well as 1 hour networking sessions, are invited. The focus areas include holistic healthy aging, service delivery competencies, nutrition, caregiver issues, effective approaches for providing aging services, aging in rural areas, the role of race, culture, and spirituality in aging services, enhancing communication and collaborative efforts among professionals, or any timely topics related to the field of healthy aging.

All submissions must be made online at http://www.wvsioa.org and must contain the following: a 50-100 word description of the workshop to be advertised in conference brochures; an abstract of the workshop that includes a brief summary of content, presentation format, an outline of learning objectives, and target audience; and online proposal submission form.

The Summer Institute on Aging is designed to provide high quality training in aging services for beginning and experienced social workers, nurses, counselors, supervisors, administrators, and professionals in related disciplines.

The event is sponsored by the Division of Social Work in the School of Applied Social Sciences in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at WVU and the WVU Center on Aging.
