WVU Department of English to host graduate student reading April 27

Morgantown, WV, April 25, 2006: Fiction, non-fiction and poetry will be presented as the West Virginia University Department of English hosts its annual reading of graduate student works from 7:30-9 p.m. Thursday, April 27, in the Mountainlair Rhododendron Room.

This year's MFA graduates who will be reading from selected works include Kristin Abraham, Kirsten Beachy, Jillian Schedneck and Matt VanderMeulen.

Abraham recently won the 2005 Elixir Press chapbook contest for her manuscript “Orange Reminds You of Listening, ” and her poem, “Little Red Riding Hood Missed the Bus,” was selected for Best New Poets 2005.

Beachy, writes and edits for “eightyone” magazine. She defended her fiction thesis “The Middle of Everywhere” this fall and resides in Harrisonburg, Va.

Schedneck will begin teaching English at Abu Dhabi University, United Arab Emirates, next fall. Her work has appeared or will appear in “The Common Review,” “Alligator Juniper,” “The Summerset Review” and “Brevity.”

VanderMeulen will receive a MFA in fiction and has work forthcoming in “Another Chicago Magazine.”

The reading is free and open to the public.
