West Virginia Poet Laureate to speak
at Educator Breakfast April 29
Morgantown, WV, April 13, 2006: West Virginia Poet Laureate Irene McKinney will read at the Educator Appreciation Week Kickoff Breakfast held at Barnes & Noble on Saturday, April 29, 2006 at 9:30 a.m. She will be available to sign books after the reception.
McKinney has published several poetry collections; her book Vivid Companion is the first poetry collection released by the WVU Press since 1972. She also edited the Press’s anthology of work by West Virginia writers titled Backcountry: Contemporary Writing in West Virginia. McKinney was appointed State Poet Laureate in 1994 by former governor Gaston Caperton. She is a faculty member at West Virginia Wesleyan College, where she teaches English and writing.
Barnes & Noble will host Educator Appreciation Week Saturday, April 29, 2006 until Sunday, May 7. During the week, those who teach grades K-12 will receive a special discount of 25% off any book and 10% off any music or DVD purchase made for the classroom.
