Center for Women’s Studies offers open house

Morgantown, WV, August 31, 2006: The Center for Women’s Studies in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at WVU will offer an open house designed to help students learn what the field of Women’s Studies is all about.

The open house will provide the opportunity for students to meet the Women’s Studies faculty and students to learn more about the numerous undergraduate and graduate academic possibilities offered by the Center. Members of the FMLA (Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance) and Iota Iota Iota Women’s Studies Honorary will also be present to meet with students. It will be held Wednesday, September 13, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in E. Moore Hall on WVU’s Downtown Campus. The event is free and open to the public and refreshments will be provided.

According to Dr. Barb Howe, Director of the Center for Women’s Studies, the open house will serve as an opportunity to explain that women’s studies examines how femininity and masculinity are socially and culturally molded rather than determined by biology alone. Women’s studies students also explore how gender interacts with factors such as race, ethnicity, class, and sexuality.

Support for this event is provided by the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences and the Women’s Studies Program Development Fund.
