Here's a group picture from the terrace where in 1559, just after the death of her husband Henri II de Valois, Catherine de Médecis, François II, and Mary Stuart (Mary Queen of Scotts) had a picnic. They had captured a band of Protestants nearby, brought them here, and cut them to pieces. The pieces were hung all around the castle as a warning to others. The picnic is a legend. The massacre of Amboise is a matter of fact.
