It's a very long story, but in the background you see the ruins of the early military castle that occupied these grounds. Today's castle is one built after the end of the Hundred Year's War. People then believed that it had been to 'war to end all wars'. In addition, artillery and gunpowder were making every castle vulnerable. War would soon be taken to the fields and open spaces where guns would decide the winner. This castle is the first that pretty much abandonned its military function and took on a ceremonial role.
