Eleanor's children are well known also. Her son, Richard the Lion-Hearted is a figure of legend. She went on the third crusade with him, but times were troubled back home. This is the time of Robinhood, Prince of Theives. When Richard returned, after some time in captivity along the way, he got into his own fights back home. Not too far from here, he was mortally wounded, and his brother John would succeed him as king of England. The blue 'gisant' is that of John's queen, Isabelle d'Angoulème. You may know that England only ever had one king John. That's because of John's reputed ineptitude as all things military or administrative. His French rival was Philippe Auguste, and Philippe took almost all of John's land from him. That's one of the reason his nicknames were "John Lackland" or "John Softsword".
