"Noirmoutier" means Blackminster or Black Monastery. The monastery is gone now, but these relics of Saint Philbert have returned to stay. Philbert died in 684 having gained a great reputation for holiness and solid accomplishments. This monastery was very prosperous under his rule. It continued to prosper long after, and it kept the relics of the cherished founder for several generations.
